Field and Vegetable Crops Department
The Field and Vegetable Crops Department covers research in the field of plant breeding and genetics, physiology and technology of field, fodder and vegetable crop production, with an emphasis on the environmentally-friendly production. The Department participates in the implementation of the CBD and conservation of PGR/FA. The expert work consists of projects covering the introduction of new agricultural plant varieties, evaluation of varieties in different agro-ecological conditions and co-ordination of the centre for vegetable growing and three vegetable growing stations in The Republic of Macedonia. Official field trials are performed, under the auspices of Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Water Economy. In addition, quality analyses of seed material and control of seed production are also carried out.
Wheat and tomato breeding has a long tradition at the Institute of Agriculture. In our breeding programme priority is given to better quality and adaptability to the Macedonian climatic conditions.
The Institute of Agriculture and Agricultural Advisory Service are involved in the implementation of expert projects. Publications and lectures are prepared by the Department staff members who also participate in extension work with growers.
