The Department offices and laboratories are located at the Agricultural Institute in Skopje while the research work takes place in the experimental orchard and in collection-introduction plantation (8 ha) situated in the village of Dolno Lisice in the vicinity of Skopje . Apart from field measurements and monitoring, the majority of research work takes place at laboratory of pomology and laboratory for vegetative propagation of plants "in vitro" .

In the field of research work, members of the Department for fruit growing are principal investigators or co-investigators at numerous basic, development or target research projects. In the recent years they have been engaged in the following investigations:

• Introduction of new conception and assortment in production of fruits. The basic task is to ensure that Macedonian fruit growers use a quality planting material of tested varieties of local and foreign origin;
• Vegetative propagation of pomes and stone fruits rootstocks and breeding;

The Department provides following services to the growers and other clients:

• Control of production of grafting and planting fruit material;
• Production of fruit planting material;
• Testing of new fruit varieties in climatic conditions of R. Macedonia.
