PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The DRIMPOL Project is a co-operation between scientists from the Republic of Macedonia , the Republic of Albania and Norway . Through measurements and analyses of data from the Drim/Drini Catchment, the project aims at quantifying the pollution loads of the catchment. More detailed, the main objectives of the project are threefold:
- Compile and analyse existing data on water quality and nutrient sources in the Drim/Drini river catchment
- Generate nutrient load budgets for the Drim/Drini catchment, with special focus on the lakes Ohrid and Prespa
- Assess the need for future abatement plans
The DRIMPOL Project will provide an improved framework for integrated land and water resources management in transboundary catchments of South Eastern Europe , with particular emphasis on water quality aspects and pollution
control measures.
The DRIMPOL Project also ensures exchange and transfer of knowledge between scientists from the three project countries. This will facilitate a learning process on management of transboundary catchments, in line with the principles of the EU Water Framework Directive.
The DRIMPOL Project started in September 2003 and will end in June 2005.
